It’s award season, and I for one am happy that it is wrapping up!
I am still chewing on the speech Tyler the Creator gave after he won Sunday night. What struck me the most about what he said was about the word ‘urban’–and how he likened it to being called a “n—-“. I agree.
There is this need to keep boxing Black artists in, and classify everything they do as “Rap”, R&B or “Urban”–even though it may not be!
What do y’all think about this? Is it coded language or is Tyler overreacting?
