Josephine Baker is being honored as a French hero.
A Black woman from St. Louis, Missouri–my hometown!--is now being moved to the French Pantheon! The first Black woman to be there! Let me help you with why I am so hype about this:
The French Pantheon is for French heroes, and everyone influential to French culture, is in the Pantheon (Alexandre Dumas is here, Madam Currie, Louis Braille, as well as Voltaire!). Despite being a entertainer, she was a humanitarian, and a spy for the French resistance for World War II.
Sis was bad!
From one St. Louis girl to another, I’m happy (read: ELATED!) about this one!
Rest easy, Ms. Baker, rest easy.
