28 Grammys.

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter has won more Grammys than any other artist in the 63-year history of the Grammys. A BLACK WOMAN DID THAT. Yet, one of the sweeter parts of the night for me was when she and Megan Thee Stallion were on stage together (they had won for the song SAVAGE, off Megan’s GOOD NEWS album). I saw Beyoncé mouth to her, “I’m so proud of you.” Like me, Beyoncé will be 40 this year! Forty! At this time, women are supposed to be in a position to impart, to teach, and be a pillar. Seeing Bey and Meg together? On stage? One not trying to outshine the other?

I cried.

The world so often assumes that Black women don’t support or encourage one another. Too often, Black women see other Black women as enemies or competition. This moment, on this stage, even in the midst of a global pandemic, was a reminder of just how truly beautiful we as Black women are…and should always be seen as.
