28 Days Of Blackness: We Still Need Wesley Snipes!

The first time I saw Wesley Snipes in anything I was about 8 or 9. My cousin, Nathan, had a copy of MOONWALKER, and the long video for the song, BAD, was included. Now, in hindsight, I know exactly who this man was.

The movies poured in from there.

New Jack City. Sugar Hill. Passenger 57. Murder at 1600. The Art Of War. White Men Can’t Jump. Blade Trilogy.

These are just off the top of my head! All the FUBU movies of the 1990s-early 2000’s had him in it! The fact is the industry needs him back! Just like Denzel Washington can carry a movie, so can Wesley Snipes! We’ve seen it happen! How quickly we all forget!

I know he was in prison because of the IRS, and his career really hasn’t recovered since. I also know as collective Blackness we are mourning the collective loss of Chadwick Boseman and Cicely Tyson. In that mourning, I can’t help but wonder what it would look like for Wesley to step into that space he was snatched out of.

What would it look like to have his talent on screen in its complete capacity again? What roles could be open to him in order to dominate them? I mean, Hollywood is out here remaking everything else! Remake that trash Art Of War sequel that had Treach from Naughty By Nature in it! He ain’t have no reason to ever have auditioned for that and all Black men cannot be Wesley Trent Snipes!

I need Wesley to come back on that same Nino Brown energy! It’s a whole pandemic! This is the energy collective Blackness needs. Besides, I would have paid money to see Wesley in his Nino Brown voice tell Orange Thanos:

“You better sit your $5 ass down before I make change!”

Not all heroes wear capes. Some had fangs, kangols, ill jump shots, and the authority to take down a plane! Harrison Ford could never. Jason Statham can’t touch it and the Rock can’t be in everything! Send the scripts to Wesley—ASAP.
