Stacey Yvonne Abrams is the reason the state of Georgia went blue. Blue for the second time in my lifetime I have seen the ensconced American South, change color. Yet, it happened and is happening.
I became a fan of Stacey Abrams when she ran for governor of Georgia. I watched her campaign, and advocate, fight to just register people to vote. I, along with the rest of the world, watched as Brian Kemp stole the election from her. I, along with the rest of the world, knew if the process was allowed to function as intended, she would have won.
Stacey Yvonne Abrams should be governor of Georgia. So, I do not fell bad for the issue that Brian Kemp is going through with the voting, recounts and voter suppression. He stole that job, clearly he is unqualified and he needs to deal with all the smoke from fire he caused!
Yet, for all his thievery, Stacey had a plan. And if you tell me, God had a plan for Stacey. It was through her hard work, donations, volunteers, and others adamant about fighting voter suppression, over 800,000 registered voters were able to vote in the 2020 Election.
Those 800,000 voters helped to turn the ‘ruby red’ state of Georgia–BLUE.
A Black woman, whom had a opportunity stolen from her, was able to take disappointment and weaponize it to the benefit for almost a million people. This is what it is, what it means, to be in positions of leadership–given the chance to lead.
When I think about the chaos of 2020, this continues to be an achievement that as a Black woman I cannot get over what she was able to do! How she was able to do it, and why it was necessary to do! Leaders aren’t always voted in, or seen on national stages. Sometimes leaders, and he real work that they do is out of sight–to be seen on national stages.
Stacey Yvonne Abrams is a hero…and I won’t lie. President Abrams sounds amazing.
