This picture is one of my favorites of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. I still remember how happy I was to see them get married! I woke up at ridiculous o’clock Central Standard Time (I believe it had to be about 3:30am) and regretted no part of being up so early! In the time of trying to deal with the reign of Orange Thanos, it felt so good to be happy for some other people! I was overjoyed when I found out they were expecting a son, and so badly wanted all this to work out for the both of them!
With Princess Diana being gone from the world much too soon (over twenty years now if you can believe it!), Lord knows that her sons deserved happiness and wives whom could love them as their mother knew they would need. Then, almost on queue, the bullshit started… It was enough that the shade from the US was the regular anti-Black rhetoric. But it seemed that much more venomous to see the absolute scale of ant-Blackness strewn at Meghan from the British Press.
The Aunt Jemima references, assertions that she and the Duchess of Cambridge (Catherine Middleton) either weren’t going to get along, or already weren’t getting along! The gossip that the Queen–Harry’s Nana!–wasn’t going to get along with her. To be fair, the reports from the British media was Meghan would be/have to go to Duchess school/training for six months-to get acquainted with what her new title will involve; this might be the coolest thing! The straw that broke the camel’s back, and set the rest of the straw on fire was when Meghan got pregnant, and the British press (and all the racists at large) called baby Archie a monkey.
Yeah. Not the best thing to do with Diana Spencer’s baby boy! I mean, from this it seemed like all the world sped up! Reports came out about how Prince William really didn’t like Meghan (even though it’s rumored that William might have cheated on Kate!), and Prince Harry wrote letters to the British tabloids telling them to leave his wife alone–and it was just too much. I can’t blame them!
What I loved about Prince Harry and how he handled all of this was he protected his wife. He shielded his wife, and did so to the point he mad the decision to leave this family. Why? Prince Harry is reported to have said he would not allow the same media that had killed his mother (spiritually and physically) to hurt his wife. Man! There are men that won’t cut an ex off, while Harry is out here giving up titles to make Meghan happy and keep his own sanity in tact!
With the success of the Netflix show THE CROWN, we can see just how off these Windsor’s are! We can see why Prince Harry’s protection of his wife would be two-fold: keeping Meghan’s happiness in the forefront and protecting her from anything he thought would hurt her. I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like to make such a decision. I also cannot imagine what it is like to have every eye (and pen!) on you–counting every hair, judging every move and commenting on every flick of your hand. On top of being Black doing it! Or being told you aren’t Black enough! I can’t say that I saw this coming, but I will say that I am glad Prince Harry made Meghan a priority–and has made sure to truly take care of her. No wonder Meghan’s mother likes him.
These two? Yeah, these two just might make it.
